I just returned from Bogota, Colombia, from a work trip. This time I flew through New York, JFK. That is a mistake. If you ever can, don’t go to New York, except if you really have to. I prefer Atlanta. I love the little train system and you can get a nice walk if you want to and have time by not taking the train. You won’t get lost if you walk. JFK airport, however is quite different. I can see how they tried to make it more cozy or whatever by making little “towns” and connecting them with corridors. But you can lose your sense of direction really easily. Anyway, when I was there, the time for the plane to take off came and passed. Nobody told us anything about what was going on. People finally got anxious and they told us that they couldn’t find the plane… They lost it somewhere in the airport… They spent a couple hours looking for it and then had to prepare it for our flight. We got on board 3 hours late. Then we spent 1.5 hours on the plane waiting for the de-icing. Poor pilot, people started making fun of him. Every time he would com on the PA he would say: “We can take off in about 10 minutes”. And then after 30 minutes he would com on again and say the same thing… so when people heard the pilot they would finish his phrase and say: “yeah, just 10 minutes…”. We finally got in the air and landed in SLC at 4:30 in the morning, instead of 23:13 as planned. They had Christmas music in JFK. When they played “I’ll be home for Christmas” tears came to my eyes. Many people weren’t too lucky, they got stranded for three days, thanks to the snow storms. I was happy to get home. When they played “Let it Snow” people protested loudly :). They shouted, please don’t let it snow more. The last hurdle in my trip was to get my car started. I parked it at SLC airport for over a week. It was freezing cold and had snowed. My battery had drained… I got a jump start and finally got home. This trip was tough, right before Christmas, and I spend two weekends out. Amalia was a trooper. I surely and happy to be home for Christmas.
